Our website address is: https://www.almostfinished.co.uk.
We need to collect data to ensure the platform is a safe place to be. If you don’t like this, then stop using the site immediately.
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form as well as further information as per Google Analytics. We use this data along with behavioural data to help spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select “Remember Me”, your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
You can set your browser to reject all cookies but then if things don’t work properly, this will be why and maybe you’re better off reading a book (we love books :).
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Check out http://www.allaboutcookies.org/ if you want to go to sleep quickly.
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
We use Google Analytics to log visits. We do not log user IP data.
We utilise MailPoet email system to store email addresses for use in marketing and other system notifications such as confirming you as a new user.
You are able to unsubscribe from our lists if you wish.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognise and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. Other than through anonymous systems like Google Analytics, MailPoet will hold your name and email address.
Their Data Processing Agreement is here: https://www.mailpoet.com/data-processing-agreement/
Basically, for us to email you and address you appropriately (ie: by your name instead of “User”..eurrgh) then we need to be able to utilise a system like MailPoet in order to do it.
You can unsubscribe and miss out on all the jolly lovely stuff we can send you but that’s up to you.
We store your contact information so we can contact you. If we don’t store it, we can’t as easily contact you.
No data is held on individual machines. They are held on encrypted servers that deliver the services required in order to make this website useable and not a hot steaming mess. These are:
Google Analytics
Digital Ocean (the company that hosts the site)
Cloudways (the company that operates a serviced layer between Almost Finished and Digital Ocean)
MailPoet (our email provider)
If any user data is leaked, we will lock down the site and investigate with professionals who, how and what happened.
We will then communicate with all users to let them know of the extent of the data breach.
In order to keep the site as spam-free as possible, our systems detect whether a user signing up or using the site is a potential spammer. These systems are automatic and do not identify personal information. They use other data points to determine whether someone is likely to be a spammer.
These data points are:
Country
Email address
On-site behaviour (do they try to log in as Admin, are they sniffing around for gaps in the site).
Basically, we’re only going to use your data as much as required to operate the site. We don’t care for selling information to Big Tech like Zuckerberg – he has enough money as it is.
We protect the site from scumbags who try to take the site down and defraud people but of course, you need to be careful yourself. Don’t use easy to guess passwords, change them regularly and be careful about logging in on other people’s machines.
